A woman was killed in a collision southeast of Battle Ground on Tuesday after the vehicle she was in crashed into a large tree.

Deputies with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and emergency medical service personnel responded to the collision in the 21500 block of Northeast Risto Road at about 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 9, according to a news release.

Upon arrival, personnel started to provide aid to the occupants of a red Mazda sedan. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, stated the release, while two men were extricated from the vehicle and transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The CCSO Traffic Unit was called to the scene.

Evidence indicated the Mazda was traveling eastbound on Risto Road at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway and collided with the tree. The release states excessive speed was a “definite factor” in the collision, which remains under investigation.

The identity of the occupants is being withheld pending the notification of the woman’s next of kin.

Risto Road was closed for approximately seven hours.
