With the reopening of schools quickly approaching, Woodland Public Schools provided free backpacks filled with school supplies to hundreds of students at its fifth Back-to-School Bash on Saturday, Aug. 21.

Gabrielle Meador, Woodland Public Schools coordinator for its Family and Community Resource Center, helped organize this year’s event, according to a news release.

The outdoor event drew in a large number of attendees while following state guidelines for the COVID-19 pandemic, stated the release. Participants picked up school supplies and chatted with representatives from local resource agencies.

“This year’s event seemed to run very smoothly, especially since we’ve been putting this on for a few years now,” Meador said. “Watching students and families having fun and exploring the various resources on hand was very exciting.”

Meador lined up donors and volunteers for the event.

“We are so grateful to our community partners who attend the event as well as those who donate funds and supplies for our Back-to-School Bash,” she said. “We received so much support from our communities including all of our wonderful volunteers.”

Attendees also had a chance to win free door prizes through a raffle, provided by Woodland local businesses, stated the release.

To continue providing services for students, the FCRC relies on support from local businesses and community organizations, the release stated.

“We couldn’t offer the programs we do without the generous support from our local organizations and community members,” Meador said. “Watching the community rally around helping those among us in need is extremely gratifying.”

The Woodland FCRC offers resources and services to students and their families who live in either Cowlitz or Clark counties.
