Nonprofit organizations and other small businesses may now apply for a Future Leader Project (FLP) business subsidy by Workforce Southwest Washington (WSW) to assist with paying the salaries of summer interns.

Applications for the FLP business subsidy are due by 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1. Applications may be submitted online at shorturl.at/tzfJL.

The FLP business grant subsidizes salary payments for summer interns in the FLP program, which aims to cultivate diverse student leadership by bolstering professional development through sponsored internships, a press release by WSW stated.

“Internships are a valuable tool for both students and businesses. The young adults get hands-on, real-world work experience, and the organization gets new energy and perspective, skills and visibility in the community,” the release stated.

Businesses in Clark and Cowlitz counties owned by veterans, women, LGBTQ+ individuals, Black, Indigenous and other people of color are welcome to apply for the FLP subsidy. Nonprofit organizations are also encouraged to apply, the press release stated.

The FLP program is an initiative of WSW, Columbia River Economic Development Council and Washington State University Vancouver, the release stated.

Businesses may contact WSW Associate Director of Programs Nolan Yaws-Gonzalez at nyaws-gonzalez@workforcesw.org or 360-567-1066 for more information. Students interested in joining FLP may visit shorturl.at/S7R4K.
