Annual Hockinson Fun Days back again and better than ever

Posted

The annual Hockinson Fun Days will return once again with a few new wrinkles and plenty of the traditional fun that has drawn area residents in the past.

Events will take place throughout the Hockinson area beginning Fri., June 1 and continuing through Sun., June 3. Those planning to attend the events are encouraged to park in the Hockinson High School parking lot, 16819 NE 159th Street in Brush Prairie, and then ride the shuttle service to the activities.

The Country Fair Carnival, which takes place Sat., June 2 from 1-4 p.m., will move to the lower parking lot at Hockinson Middle School this year and the Marketplace Bazaar will be in the middle school gymnasium.

The Hockinson High School Boosters will be selling T-shirts for the Fun Days event this year. The sales of the T-shirts will help support Scout Pack 359. Cost is $15 per shirt and they will be available at the Bingo Night which kicks off Fun Days on Fri., June 1 and also at the annual pancake breakfast on Sat., June 2.

Bingo Night at Hockinson High School is the annual opening event to Fun Days. It will take place from 6-9 p.m. in the high school commons. Concessions will also be available at Bingo Night from 6-8 p.m. Families are welcome. Carnival pre-sale tickets will be available.

The staff and firefighters of Fire District 3 will host their 24th annual Pancake Breakfast Sat., June 2 from 7 a.m.-noon. at the Hockinson station located at 17718 NE 159th St. in Brush Prairie. Cost is $15 per family or $5 for each adult or child. The all-you-can-eat breakfast includes pancakes, ham, scrambled eggs, coffee and juice. There will also be an Open House at the fire station and demonstrations by Fire District 3 personnel.

Proceeds from the breakfast will help fund research for treatment of gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST). Area resident Shawna Miller was diagnosed with GIST on July 2, 2011. Grateful for the groundbreaking research at Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU) and inspired by the potential to find better treatments for GIST, the Millers initiated the fund to accelerate the pace of GIST cancer research discovery. Contributions to the research fund will help bring new hope to patients and their families.

The Open House is scheduled for 8 a.m.-noon. Attendees will experience interactive displays, firefighting and emergency medical demonstrations, station tours, apparatus and equipment displays, Life Flight helicopter, and many more events including a water squirt for kids, the auto extrication demonstration, a real structure fire and rescue in the training tower, and the popular Clark County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit demonstration.

The Hockinson Fun Days Parade will begin at noon on Sat., June 2. The parade begins at the high school and ends at NE 182nd Ave. The parade will include area bands, floats, old cars and kids. Grand Marshal of this year’s parade is Hockinson High School standout Nick Cody, a current member of the Oregon Ducks football team.
