The Area Agency on Aging and Disabilities of Southwest Washington (AAADSW) has named Joe Valtierra as its new executive director following the retirement of longtime leader Mike Reardon.
Reardon retired June 30 after 28 years with the agency. Valtierra joined AAADSW in May and previously worked with the agency before leaving in 2016 to continue expanding his professional experience, according to an AAADSW press release.
“I feel blessed to be able to come back to AAADSW,” Valtierra said in the release. “I feel honored to do the work I love every day.”
Valtierra said he plans to build on the agency’s work as it continues to navigate changes in Medicaid and services supporting older adults, people with disabilities and family caregivers.
AAADSW will host a public meet-and-greet with Valtierra from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3, at the City of Vancouver Water Resources Education Center, 4600 SE Columbia Way, Vancouver.
AAADSW connects older adults, adults with disabilities and family caregivers with community resources designed to support independence and improve quality of life. The agency serves Clark, Cowlitz, Wahkiakum, Skamania and Klickitat counties. To learn more, visit helpingelders.org.
