A large family gathering in Lewisville Park led to a fight between groups, an assault with an ax handle and a hit-and-run that left one vehicle on its side on Sunday, April 20.

Clark County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) deputies were dispatched to a traffic accident that resulted in injuries at Lewisville Park, 26411 NE Lewisville Highway. The initial report indicated that two people had been run over by a red Jeep that left the park. A second rollover collision was reported in the same incident, with multiple people injured, according to Chris Skidmore of CCSO.

Once deputies and officers from the Battle Ground Police Department arrived shortly after the call came out to emergency services around 7:18 p.m. on April 20, victims and witnesses reported that there had been a large fight and multiple victims had been struck by a hatchet or similar tool.

The investigation later determined the weapon to be an ax handle, Skidmore stated.

The large family gathering was taking place at the park for an Easter celebration when a fight broke out between groups attending the celebration. Multiple people were injured, including two individuals with significant injuries from the ax handle. A female witness was attempting to leave in a vehicle to get service to call 911 when she collided with another vehicle driven by one of the suspects, causing her car to roll onto the driver's side, Skidmore stated.

Detectives from the CCSO Major Crimes and Special Victims Units assisted with contacting victims at the hospital and with the ongoing investigation. Probable cause was developed to arrest Denis Zhdanov for two counts of first-degree assault, Skidmore stated.

A 16-year-old male is the suspect in the hit-and-run that caused the other vehicle to roll, and deputies believe there is probable cause for the charge for felony hit-and-run. Deputies have identified the 16-year-old suspect in the hit-and-run. Further attempts will be made to contact him, Skidmore stated.

Later that evening, deputies located and arrested Zhdanov, who remains booked in Clark County Jail as of 11 a.m. on Monday, April 21. He was booked into jail for two counts of first-degree assault.
