Battle Ground council adopts 10-year natural gas franchise agreement

Posted

On Monday, April 20, the Battle Ground City Council unanimously adopted a natural gas franchise agreement with Northwest Natural Gas Company.

The agreement renews a long-standing partnership that began in 1994, allowing the company to continue using the city's right-of-way to deliver natural gas services. Under the terms, Northwest Natural Gas can construct, install, maintain and repair infrastructure needed to serve customers, while covering all related costs within city limits.

The ordinance also requires the company to relocate facilities at its own expense, should city public works projects make it necessary. The franchise is non-exclusive, meaning the city may grant similar agreements to other providers.

The agreement runs for 10 years.
