Battle Ground High School senior Sora Tolley was named a Commended Student in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program earlier this month.

A Letter of Commendation from both Battle Ground High School and the National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSC), which conducts the program, was presented to her via email and also in the form of a physical certificate.

“Although she will not continue in the 2024 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, we are nonetheless very proud of her achievement,” Battle Ground High School Principal Charbonneau Gourde stated in the announcement.

Students entered the nationwide competition for recognition and awards conducted by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, by taking the 2022 preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Approximately 34,000 students are being recognized as Commended Students.

“Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” an NMSC spokesperson stated. “These students represent a valuable national resource. Recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
