Residents of North Parkway Avenue in Battle Ground approached a blocked off roadway full of police activity on the afternoon of Tuesday, Jan. 28, in an incident where a man was arrested.

Beginning at 3:30 p.m., Clark County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) detectives with the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), with assistance from the Southwest Washington Regional Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), the Battle Ground Police Department (BGPD), CCSO Tactical Detective Unit (TDU) and the Vancouver office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) served a search warrant at a residence in the 900 block of North Parkway Avenue, a news release from CCSO stated.

Investigators later served a search warrant on a vehicle owned by David Jones, 48, of Battle Ground, related to an unlawful possession of firearms and possession of controlled substance investigation.

Prior to the vehicle search, however, Jones was dropped off at the Battle Ground Police Department without incident, CCSO Sgt. Chris Skidmore stated in an email. He was arrested for illegal possession of a firearm because he is prohibited from owning one, the release stated. During the Jan. 28 search, investigators located two firearms and small amounts of fentanyl, heroin and methamphetamine in the residence and a loaded handgun in the vehicle, according to the release.

In 2024, the Vancouver Police Department’s Crime Reduction Team searched the same residence and seized 12 firearms from the defendant. Jones had been out of custody and awaiting disposition on these charges.
