The Battle Ground Police Department (BGPD) is investigating a series of animal shootings involving blow darts reported in multiple neighborhoods over the past several months.

On Feb. 17, BGPD detectives served a search warrant at a residence in the 100 block of Southeast 17th Way with assistance from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. Officers recovered items consistent with the case, including two blowguns. The investigation remains ongoing, and no suspects have been identified, according to a City of Battle Ground news release.

The case began Nov. 1, 2025, when officers responded to reports of multiple young men shooting raccoons and squirrels with a blow dart gun near South Parkway Avenue and Southeast 17th Way. Razor-tipped darts were found embedded in homes and trees.

BGPD received additional reports of injured animals near Florence Robison Park, located at 901 NW Ninth St., Battle Ground. Officers discovered four live ducks with embedded blow darts and were able to capture one for medical treatment, the news release stated.

Police said the case could involve potential charges, including reckless endangerment and animal cruelty, depending on the outcome of the investigation. Discharging firearms or similar devices within city limits is prohibited under municipal code.

Anyone with information is asked to contact BGPD Detective Josh Phelps at joshua.phelps@cityofbg.org. Injured wildlife may be reported to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Enforcement at 360-902-2936.
