Battle Ground Senior Citizens Inc. to hold new program: Lunch and Learn

Posted

Battle Ground Senior Citizens, Inc. will begin a new program on Wednesday, July 19, that will occur every third Wednesday of the month for the rest of the year and beyond. The new program by Laurie Hansen has been dubbed “Lunch and Learn” and will take place at the Battle Ground Senior Center.

The new program will require pre-registration to attend as the limit is 50 people per class. The first class taking place on July 19 was quickly filled as seniors will learn about an important and always evolving topic — senior scams.

“We are more than excited about (Lunch and Learn). Part of our mission statement is education,” Sharon Wodtke, President of Battle Ground Senior Citizens, Inc. said. “This one is special to me and to have someone step in like Laurie Hansen who’s already got a program ready to go, it’s been overwhelming.”

Hansen will be providing five classes for the rest of 2023 with the schedule already planned. She said for 2024 they will for sure be doubling up on the senior scams topic and will be introducing other key topics to learn.

“There are so many things that we can help seniors with senior scams, being prepared if you lose your spouse, how to stay active. All of those things that just continuing to educate the seniors keeps it in the front of mind,” Hansen said. “And it’s just something that’s a passion in my heart too and so I’m so excited to be able to do this with the senior center and sharing with Lori (Lindberg) and offer the seniors something that will really help them.”

The schedule for 2023 includes:

• Senior Scams, Wednesday, July 19

• Home Health versus Home Care, Wednesday, Aug. 16

• Living Solo as a Senior, Wednesday, Sept. 20

• Emergency Preparedness, Wednesday, Oct. 18

• Going From WE to ME, Wednesday, Nov. 15

To register for classes if space is available, sign up at the registration desk in the Battle Ground Senior Center located at 116 Northeast Third Ave. Registration can also be completed by emailing Sharon Wodtke at swodtke@comcast.net or by calling 360-953-3278.
