Woodland Beavers’ senior Mikey Belvin is a human highlight on the football field.
He is also a highlight on the basketball court and baseball diamond, making him a consensus triple threat for Woodland athletics.
The Beavers won 50-13 over the Hockinson Hawks on Friday, Sept. 18, with Belvin scoring three touchdowns and blitzing his way to multiple sacks.
Belvin stands at 6 foot 4 and weighs 205 pounds. He plays middle linebacker and wide receiver for the Woodland Beavers. He is a top-tier athlete with a strong focus on his senior season and, as one of the captains, he has a straightforward goal.
“Just everybody coming together and just playing our best football,” Belvin said. “Us seniors are all the same age now, so there’s no excuses, and we all just want to fly around and play the best football we can.”
Belvin knows the importance of setting an example for the underclassmen on the team as well.
“It’s just setting a standard,” Belvin said. “We’re always going 100 percent for those underclassmen, so they know once they get in the game, they do the same thing.”
Woodland head coach Glen Flanagan said Belvin is a major asset for the Beavers.
“He’s willing to do whatever it takes for the team. He’s selfless,” Flanagan said. “He’s just the heart and soul of our team.”
Belvin takes pride in attending Woodland High School and being part of the Beavers community.
“It’s a super tight community,” Belvin said. “It’s really cool playing for a smaller school because you’re usually the underdogs, but we can be the best.”
Baseball is Belvin’s favorite of the three sports. After graduating with the class of 2027, he is committed to play baseball at Saint Martin’s University. As a pitcher, his fastball has been clocked at 91 miles per hour.
Looking ahead to his future studies, Belvin has a career in mind.
“I want to study exercise science and hopefully become a physical therapist,” he said.
