BG taco truck uses the freshest of meats

As the food cart trend continues to grow north out of Portland and more and more into Battle Ground, all should take notes from Taqueria Los Toritos.

The Mexican-food stand is located in the parking lot of Battle Ground Produce, one block east of the railroad tracks on Main Street.

Since opening a year and a half ago the husband/wife team of Ricardo and Maria Lara have done nothing but elevate their business.

“Everday we get a new customer,” says Ricardo, who grew up in Battle Ground and says he wouldn’t want to be parked serving food anywhere else but in his hometown.

They’re the only taco truck in town, which helps draw customers in. The meats on the menu help bring customers back. Ricardo says the meats he uses doesn’t get any fresher.

“We get the meats right next door (at the produce store),” he says. “They’re as fresh as you can get. I don’t care about the cost, I like quality. The fresher the better.”

The Laras admit there’s a special ingredient, or ingredients they use, but won’t release the contents.

Taqueria Los Toritos is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. You can also call in orders. All-day breakfast burritos are served and when it’s raining they have tents that cover tables and seating for customers to stay dry for the few minutes of waiting. Occasionally the demand gets to be too much.

“There’s times when it gets so crowded I might have like 30 people waiting in line,” Ricardo says, adding the couple might fill that expanded need by opening another truck in the area.
