A Battle Ground Police Department sergeant died Thursday, Aug. 10, following a medical emergency while on duty, the city reported last week.
Kelly served on the Battle Ground force since 2005, a release from the city announcing his death stated. It did not provide much detail on Kelly’s death but noted an investigation was underway, per department protocol. The Vancouver Police Department is undertaking the investigation.
“The City recognizes that this is a profoundly personal matter and is respectful of his family and their privacy,” the release stated. “The City and Police Department are offering their assistance to the family in their time of need.”
The city asked the community to keep Kelly, his family and members of the police department in their thoughts.
“A husband, father, brother, friend, neighbor, protector, Sgt. Kelly was many things to so many people,” the release stated. “He will be deeply missed.”
