Battle Ground Public Schools is looking for several members to serve on its citizens advisory committee and two curriculum adoption committees.

The BGPS Citizens Advisory Committee is composed of 30 to 40 members from a variety of backgrounds, including business, municipal and faith-based leaders, as well as parents, guardians and senior citizens.

Members provide input on school programs, policies and issues to the superintendent and School Board, the release stated. Meetings take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of the month, September through April.

Those interested are asked to fill out an application by Friday, Aug. 25. Selected applicants will be notified via email by early September and will receive information about the first meeting.

BGPS is also seeking volunteers to review and provide input on science curricula for grades six through 12 and social studies curricula covering ninth to 12th grade, the release stated.

Applying for those committees is a two-step process. Those interested should first complete the BGPS curriculum adoption committees application form. The form must be filled out no later than Aug. 28, the release stated.

The district anticipates a possible follow-up interview for the finalists. Committee members are expected to be selected by Sept. 11.

For each committee, the district will select three parents, guardians and/or community members, in addition to teachers and administrators, the release stated. Each committee will meet up to eight times.

For the science curriculum committee, meetings will be hosted from 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesdays between Sept. 26, and April 23, the release stated. The social studies committee will have meetings 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursdays, between Sept. 28, and April 25.

Members will be expected to complete “homework” outside of meetings, according to the release. Participants are also expected to attend some BGPS board of directors meetings, likely in May and June.
