Candidate filings for the 2025 local council elections closed at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 9. This early version of the candidate list reflects filings available as of press time, with additional updates expected. The finalized list can be found at clark.wa.gov/elections/candidates, and this story will be updated as more information becomes available. The primary election is scheduled for August 5, with the general election on November 4.

Battle Ground

Mayor Troy McCoy is seeking reelection to City Council Position 1 for a regular four-year term. The role of mayor is subject to an appointment vote by the council in January following the general election.

Appointee Jeanie Kuypers will face off against former mayor and longtime councilmember Philip L. Johnson for council position 4. Kuypers was appointed in February after Adrian Cortes resigned to serve as a state senator. Johnson previously served 12 years on the council and stepped down in 2023 to retire.

Position 5 incumbent Tricia Davis did not file for reelection at press time. Two candidates, John Idsinga, who currently serves on the city’s planning commission, and Dave Terry, have filed for the open seat.

Incumbent Cherish DesRochers is seeking reelection to Position 6 without opposition as of press time.

Ridgefield

Four candidates have filed in Ridgefield. Matt Cole, currently serving as mayor following Ron Onslow’s retirement, is running for reelection to Position 4. The other three—Meghan Hamilton (Position 1), Katie Favela (Position 5), and Rian Davis (Position 6)—were each appointed during recent vacancies and are seeking to retain their seats.

La Center

In La Center, Position 1 is open as current councilmember Melissa Fox did not file at press time. Louis Rivara is the sole candidate for that seat. KC Kasberg, currently serving on the council, is seeking reelection to Position 2.

Woodland

In Woodland, Position 1 is contested by incumbent J.J. Burke and challenger Keith Bellisle. Melissa Doughty and Carol Rounds seek to retain their seats in Positions 3 and 2, respectively.

Jason Friend, who was appointed last year following Monte Smith’s resignation, is running for Position 7 to complete the remainder of the unexpired two-year term. Jennifer De Luz is running for Position 6, currently held by Terry Hall.

Yacolt

All four council candidates who filed in the Town of Yacolt currently hold their seats: Jeff Carothers (Position 1), Kandi Peto (Position 2), Craig Carroll (Position 3), and Brandon Russell (Position 4). The town council consists of five members.
