The Clark County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) recently upgraded 25 patrol vehicles with Grappler Police Bumpers, a vehicle immobilization device able to safely end high-speed pursuits with a controlled stop.
The bumper, a device constructed of durable yellow nylon webbing, is deployed with a spring-loaded mechanism attached to the patrol vehicle’s front bumper. The device ensnares the rear wheel of the suspect vehicle, wrapping around the axle and bringing the pursuit to a halt, a news release by CCSO stated.
“This advanced technology provides a safer alternative to traditional high-speed pursuit methods, reducing the risks associated with vehicle chases for law enforcement officers and the public,” the news release stated.
CCSO deputies traveled to Arizona in January for specialized training with the device. Additional patrol staff will receive grappler training in March, the release stated.
