Charter Review Commission schedules town halls on proposed ballot amendments

Posted

The Clark County Charter Review Commission will hold four upcoming town hall meetings to discuss nine proposed amendments that will be on the Nov. 3 general election ballot.

The town halls will be held in each of the county's five council districts. Charter Review Commissioners will present information and answer questions about the proposed amendments, according to a Clark County news release.

The proposed amendments address a range of topics, including county elections, housing policy, taxation, ethics oversight, budget transparency and county government operations. Proposals would require a supermajority vote of the Clark County Council to approve new taxes or tax increases, establish term limits for council members and require housing impact analyses before certain land-use code changes. Other proposals would expand the county's ethics system, revise initiative and referendum procedures and authorize performance audits of county programs.

The remaining meetings are scheduled as follows:

  • District 4: 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, Camas Public Library, 625 NE 4th Ave., Camas.
  • District 3: 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, Cascade Park Library, 600 NE 136th Ave., Vancouver.
  • District 1: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, Vancouver Community Library, Columbia Room, 901 C St., Vancouver.
  • District 2: 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, Bud Van Cleve Room at Luke Jensen Sports Complex, 4000 NE 78th St., Vancouver.
