The number of Clark County’s recent COVID-19 cases started to rise again after a week of decline, though no deaths from the disease were reported in the last week.

Clark County Public Health’s Aug. 3 report included 14 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population over seven days, up from the 11.2 per 100,000 reported the prior week.

The recent statewide case rate also rose and remains higher than Clark County’s rate. As of Aug. 3, Washington had 18.2 cases per 100,000 population, up from 17 per 100,000 reported the prior week.

Recent case rates lag behind the most recent counts of cases. The health department’s most recent case rate was based on activity from July 18 to July 24.

Clark County Public Health tallied 79 additional cases between July 27 and Aug. 3, more than the 66 recorded between July 20 and July 27. The county’s case total includes 114,411 confirmed and probable cases in Clark County since the outbreak began, although that number does not include at-home tests, which often go unreported.

Clark County Public Health’s Aug. 3 report did not have any confirmed or suspected COVID-19 deaths in the prior week. On July 27, the health department reported the first confirmed COVID-19 death since July 6.

With no new deaths to report this past week, the total of Clark County’s COVID-19 deaths remains at 1,057, which includes 907 confirmed and 150 suspected deaths.

The latest data showed a decrease in the percentage of hospital beds dedicated to COVID-19 patients. The health department’s Aug. 3 report had 2.7% of hospital beds with confirmed COVID-19 patients in Clark County, less than the 3.1% of beds reported the prior week. The latest data showed 2.7% of intensive care unit beds were occupied by COVID-19 patients, after two weeks with no such patients.

New COVID-19 hospital admissions rose in the latest data. In its Aug. 3 report, the health department reported 1.4 admissions per 100,000 population in the past seven days, more than the one per 100,000 population reported July 27.

Clark County’s share of COVID-19 cases stayed about the same in the latest data. According to the Washington State Department of Health, the county had about 5.8% of cases and about 6.5% of deaths in Washington.
