Clark County COVID-19 cases still declining, one death reported

Clark County’s recent COVID-19 case rate is back on the decline, though the first confirmed death from the disease in three weeks was reported in the latest data.

Clark County Public Health’s July 27 report included 11.2 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population over seven days, down from the 14 per 100,000 reported the prior week. It was the first drop in the case rate since June.

The recent statewide case rate also dropped and remains higher than Clark County’s rate. As of July 27, Washington had 17 cases per 100,000 population, down from 17.1 per 100,000 reported the prior week.

Recent case rates lag behind the most recent counts of cases. The health department’s most recent case rate was based on activity from July 11 to July 17.

Clark County Public Health tallied 66 additional cases between July 20 and July 27, more than the 61 recorded between July 13 and July 20. The county’s case total includes 114,332 confirmed and probable cases in Clark County since the outbreak began, although that number does not include at-home tests, which often go unreported.



Clark County Public Health’s July 27 report included one confirmed COVID-19 death in the prior week. It was the first new death reported since July 6.

With the latest numbers, the total of Clark County’s COVID-19 deaths is at 1,057, which includes 907 confirmed and 150 suspected deaths.

The latest data showed an increase in the percentage of hospital beds with COVID-19 patients. The health department’s July 27 report had 3.1% of hospital beds with confirmed COVID-19 patients in Clark County, compared with 2.1% of beds reported the prior week. No COVID-19 patients in intensive care unit beds were reported for a second week.

New COVID-19 hospital admissions dropped in the latest data. In its July 27 report, the health department reported one admission per 100,000 population in the past seven days, less than the 1.8 per 100,000 population reported July 20. 

Clark County’s share of COVID-19 cases stayed about the same in the latest data. According to the Washington State Department of Health, the county had about 5.8% of cases and about 6.5% of deaths in Washington.
