Clark County’s recent COVID-19 case rate dropped to double digits for the first time in four months.
Clark County Public Health’s Aug. 25 report included 88.9 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population over seven days, down from the 105.4 per 100,000 reported the prior week.
The case rate decreased for its fifth-straight week and is the lowest it has been since April 28.
The recent case rate statewide also dropped. As of Aug. 25, Washington had 134.5 cases per 100,000 population, down from 147 per 100,000 the week prior.
Recent case rates lag behind the most recent counts of cases. The health department’s most recent case rate was based on activity from Aug. 9 to Aug. 15.
The health department reported 494 new COVID-19 cases between Aug. 18 and Aug. 25, more than the 450 new COVID-19 cases between Aug. 11 and Aug. 18. In total, there have been 103,666 confirmed and probable cases in Clark County since the outbreak began.
Clark County Public Health’s Aug. 25 report included four additional confirmed COVID-19 deaths and two deaths suspected to be due to the disease, lower than the five confirmed deaths and three suspected deaths reported the prior week.
The confirmed deaths included two men in their 70s, a woman in her 70s and a woman in her 60s. The deaths suspected to be due to COVID-19 included a man and woman, who were both older than 80. The deaths bring Clark County’s total to 901, including 774 confirmed and 127 suspected to be due to the disease.
The number of COVID-19 patients occupying hospital beds in Clark County slightly increased.
As of Aug. 25, 11.7% of beds had either patients with confirmed COVID-19 or patients awaiting test results, up from 11.3% reported on Aug. 18. The number of intensive care unit (ICU) beds occupied by COVID-19 patients and patients awaiting test results was 4.3%, far lower than the 57.6% reported the week prior.
New COVID-19 hospital admissions increased in the latest data. In its Aug. 25 report, the health department reported 8.8 admissions per 100,000 population in the past seven days, up from 7 admissions per 100,000 population reported on Aug. 18.
Total hospital bed occupancy in the county increased as of Aug. 25. The health department reported 98.1% of hospital beds and 95.7% of ICU beds in the county were occupied, compared to 95.7% of all beds and 96.6% of the ICU beds on Aug. 18.
Clark County’s statewide share of COVID-19 cases and deaths stayed about the same as of Aug. 25 compared to the prior week. The Washington State Department of Health reported the county had about 5.8% of cases and 6.4% of deaths.
