A Clark County strike team was recently deployed to assist with wildfire response efforts in Eastern Washington, including work on the Upriver Fire near Spokane.

According to Clark County Fire District 10, the strike team first responded to the OIE Fire west of Benton City before being redeployed to the Upriver Fire because of an immediate threat to homes.

During the Upriver Fire response, crews worked on structure protection during the night shift. A brush truck from Clark County Fire District 13 and a strike team leader trainee vehicle from Clark County Fire District 10 were among the resources shown in a photo shared by Fire District 10.

The Clark County team also included a strike team leader from Fire District 3, a brush truck from Fire District 3, a brush truck from Clark-Cowlitz Fire Rescue, a brush truck from the Camas-Washougal Fire Department and a water tender from Clark County Fire District 10.

Fire District 10 officials said local crews will continue working together throughout the summer on an as-needed basis as wildfire conditions require assistance across the state.

Local agencies are reimbursed by the State Fire Marshal’s Office for labor and equipment costs when they respond to fires that exceed local capacity.

“We have been to all corners of the state and everywhere in between over the years together,” Fire District 10 stated. “This is one of the ways we ensure that when you need us, we are well-trained and ready to go.”
