Clark County Fire District 6 welcomed a new Pierce fire engine to service with a firefighters’ tradition that began in the 1800s. The new Engine 62 was pushed into Station 62 in Felida on Thursday, July 13.

“The push-in ceremony honors the tradition of fire crews from the 1800s, when crews had to detach horses from the horse-drawn equipment and push the wagons into the fire station,” Fire District 6 stated in a press release. “Now, in honor of those early crews, many departments hold a push-in ceremony when taking delivery of a new apparatus.”

The new engine, based out of Station 62, will primarily serve the unincorporated areas of Lake Shore and Felida.

“We feel it’s important for the public to take part or see this short ceremony, as this is their fire engine — not ours,” Clark County Fire District 6 Fire Chief Kristan Maurer said in the release. “Their tax dollars paid for this engine, and their support is what keeps us going.”
