Clark County reminds residents to properly clear and dispose of leaves

Clark County is reminding residents to properly dispose of fallen leaves this autumn to prevent clogged drains, flooding and excess landfill waste.

Leaves should not be raked or blown into the street, where they can block storm drains, create standing water and pose hazards for drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians. Instead, residents should place leaves in curbside yard debris or organics carts, compost them in their backyard, or mulch them into lawns and landscaped areas, a Clark County news release stated.

Residents may also use the free Fall Leaf Coupon program, offered by Clark County Public Works and Vancouver Public Works. Coupons allow residents to drop off up to five cubic yards of leaves at no charge between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31. Coupons are for residential use only, and branches or other yard debris are not accepted.
