Clark County is seeking applicants for one primary and three alternate positions on the Clark County Board of Equalization, which hears appeals from property owners over assessed property valuations and exemptions.
The three-member board is an impartial citizen panel. Members serve three-year terms and are paid $100 per day for hearings they attend, according to a Clark County news release.
Hearings are held Tuesday through Thursday mornings on alternating weeks for about 10 months of the year. The average commitment is about six mornings per month, with hearings lasting approximately three hours, plus time to review cases.
Applicants must be Clark County residents and know about real or personal property appraisal, real estate or property tax law. They cannot hold elected office or be an employee of an elected official. Former Clark County Assessor’s Office employees are not eligible to serve for two years after leaving their employment. The county will provide training on Board of Equalization practices.
Applications must include a letter of interest and résumé and are due by 5 p.m. Oct. 2. They can be mailed to Jake Goodwin in the County Manager’s Office at P.O. Box 5000, Vancouver, WA 98666-5000, or emailed to Jake.Goodwin@clark.wa.gov.
