Clark County’s COVID-19 case rate decreases in latest update

Clark County’s recent COVID-19 case rate dropped after two weeks of increases and is once again below the statewide rate.

Clark County Public Health’s June 29 report included 11.6 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population over seven days, down from the 15.2 per 100,000 reported the prior week.

The recent statewide case rate rose and is now higher than Clark County’s rate. As of June 29, Washington had 14.4 cases per 100,000 population, slightly up from 14.3 per 100,000 reported the prior week.

Recent case rates lag behind the most recent counts of cases. The health department’s most recent case rate was based on activity from June 13 to June 19.

Clark County Public Health tallied 68 additional cases between June 22 and June 29, more than the 54 recorded between June 15 and June 22. The county’s case total includes 114,066 confirmed and probable cases in Clark County since the outbreak began, although that number does not include at-home tests, which often go unreported.



Clark County Public Health’s June 29 report included one confirmed death since June 22. The prior week, the health department reported two confirmed deaths.

With the latest numbers, the total of Clark County’s COVID-19 deaths rose to 1,054, which includes 904 confirmed and 150 suspected deaths.

The number of COVID-19 patients occupying hospital beds in Clark County dropped in the latest data. As of June 29, 7.9% of beds had either patients with confirmed COVID-19 or patients awaiting test results, less than the 10.6% reported on June 22. The number of intensive care unit beds occupied by COVID-19 patients and patients awaiting test results dropped to 2.2%, compared to 11.4% from the prior week.

New COVID-19 hospital admissions dropped after three weeks of increase. In its June 29 report, the health department reported 1.6 admissions per 100,000 population in the past seven days, less than the 2.2 per 100,000 the prior week.

Clark County’s share of COVID-19 cases stayed about the same while the share of deaths slightly rose in the latest data. According to the Washington State Department of Health, the county had about 5.8% of cases and about 6.6% of deaths in Washington.
