Clark County’s COVID-19 case rate slightly climbs

Clark County’s recent COVID-19 case rate saw another slight increase as hospitalizations also rose in the latest data.

Clark County Public Health’s July 6 report included 12.2 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population over seven days, slightly up from the 11.6 per 100,000 reported the prior week.

The recent statewide case rate also rose and remains higher than Clark County’s rate. As of July 6, Washington had 15.7 cases per 100,000 population, slightly up from 14.4 per 100,000 reported the prior week.

Recent case rates lag behind the most recent counts of cases. The health department’s most recent case rate was based on activity from June 20 to June 26.

Clark County Public Health tallied 51 additional cases between June 29 and July 6, fewer than the 68 recorded between June 22 and June 29. The county’s case total includes 114,117 confirmed and probable cases in Clark County since the outbreak began, although that number does not include at-home tests, which often go unreported.



Clark County Public Health’s July 6 report included two confirmed deaths since June 29. The prior week, the health department reported a single confirmed death.

With the latest numbers, the total of Clark County’s COVID-19 deaths rose to 1,056, which includes 906 confirmed and 150 suspected deaths.

The number of COVID-19 patients occupying hospital beds in Clark County rose in the latest data. As of July 6, 9.4% of beds had either patients with confirmed COVID-19 or patients awaiting test results, more than the 7.9% reported on June 29. The number of intensive care unit beds occupied by COVID-19 patients and patients awaiting test results rose to 8.7%, compared to 2.2% from the prior week.

New COVID-19 hospital admissions dropped for a second week. In its June 6 report, the health department reported 1.2 admissions per 100,000 population in the past seven days, less than the 1.6 per 100,000 the prior week.

Clark County’s share of COVID-19 cases stayed about the same while the share of deaths slightly dropped in the latest data. According to the Washington State Department of Health, the county had about 5.8% of cases and about 6.5% of deaths in Washington.
