The Clark County Board of Health unanimously appointed Dr. Brianna da Silva Bhatia as the county’s interim health officer this week following the retirement of Dr. Alan Melnick.

Da Silva Bhatia joined Clark County Public Health as deputy health officer in February 2025. She is a board-certified internal medicine physician and holds a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Washington School of Public Health, according to a Clark County news release.

Melnick retired Aug. 25 after more than 20 years with the county. He served as health officer and director of Public Health.

“On behalf of the Clark County Board of Health, I thank Dr. Melnick for his service to the county,” Council Chair Sue Marshall said in the release. “He saw our community through some difficult times, including the COVID pandemic and measles outbreaks. We wish him the best in his retirement.”

The Board of Health and Public Health Advisory Council will discuss the process for selecting a permanent health officer at upcoming meetings.
