The suspect in last week’s fatal Longview stabbing has been arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department, Longview police announced Tuesday afternoon.

The announcement comes a day after Alexander Lee Rogers was also spotted in video surveillance in the greater L.A. area.

He’s been on the run since the Aug. 5 Terumi Lane stabbing.

Rogers, 51, of Longview, was formally charged last week with second-degree murder for the stabbing death of 64-year-old Dawn Peters, as well as first-degree assault for stabbing a 73-year-old man. Both charges carry a deadly weapon enhancement.

Longview Police Capt. Branden McNew said Tuesday “the hundreds of tips received during this investigation ... played a key role” in the arrest.

Rogers’ vehicle, a black BMW, was also found at about 1 a.m. Monday outside of L.A., McNew told The Daily News earlier.

The car was found in 23000 block of Calabasas Road in the city of Calabasas, a roughly 22-mile drive from Hollywood, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The Longview Police Department reports the car is being held as evidence. Longview detectives plan to go to Southern California to assist with processing the car and more, according to a Monday notice from Longview police.

Court records show Rogers is a convicted sex offender after he was convicted of beating and raping a woman in 2001. He was also convicted after he broke into a home in Cathlamet in 2002 with a machete and assaulted two people.

Longview police say the two victims were found in the Terumi Lane home at about noon on Aug. 5; Peters was dead, and the other victim critically injured.
