Cowlitz County man arrested after allegedly threatening to kill noisy kids

A Longview man is charged with felony harassment and third-degree malicious mischief for allegedly threatening to kill his roommate with a knife after screaming at what he believed were noisy kids in an apartment next door.

Court records show Brandon Lee Jessee, 32, punctured a hole in the wall of his Columbia Heights apartment, adjacent to a child's room in another apartment.

Jessee was annoyed by the loud children, screaming that he would "rape and kill" them, according to the police report that led to his arrest.

When his roommate tried to stop him, Jessee — who told authorities he is schizophrenic — turned on him, the report continues.

Jessee's attorney, Maxwell Lee of Morgan Defense Law, entered a not guilty plea for his client on Monday in Cowlitz County Superior Court.

Judge Thad Scudder at $3,000 Monday, and Jessee was still in Cowlitz County Jail as of Tuesday morning.

The roommate called 911 on Jan. 24 to report Jessee threatened him and was throwing items around their apartment in the 600 block Olson Road, near Columbia Heights Assembly.

A neighbor also reported hearing two people yelling at each other and banging on the walls.

The victim told Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office deputies that Jessee was mad about noisy children in a neighboring apartment, screaming that he would sexually assault and kill them, the report states.

The victim told Jessee the landlord could evict him for such threats, but the warning made him angrier.

He threatened the victim with a knife, so the roommate called 911, court records show.

As more law enforcement arrived, a neighbor also told police a man was breaking through that person's apartment wall, leading to a child's room.

Deputies report seeing a large hole in Jessee's room, which authorities say was made by swinging a metal pipe and a wooden towel rod. The estimated cost to repair the drywall is about $600, according to court records.

After being arrested, Jessee told the authorities he was struggling with his schizophrenia.

Court records show Jessee has a criminal record that includes two convictions for third-degree assault.

His next court hearing is scheduled for Feb. 23.
