A 45-year-old man was injured Saturday morning, July 5, when a distracted driver struck a stationary Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT) truck on Interstate 5 near milepost 11 in Clark County.
Around 7:14 a.m., 20-year-old Noam Wecksler of Portland, Oregon, was driving south in lane one when he failed to slow for a road closure. The marked WSDOT vehicle was parked in lane two for traffic control following an earlier fatal collision. At the time, lanes two, three and four were closed, a Washington State Patrol memo stated.
The WSDOT driver, David Hays of Battle Ground, was wearing a seatbelt and was taken to Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center with injuries.
Troopers cited Wecksler for negligent driving, violating the road closure, speeding too fast for conditions and using a personal electronic device behind the wheel. Drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash, according to the memo.
