Early election results show tight local races, Vancouver levy passing

Preliminary election results released Tuesday night show several close races across north Clark County. 

The first round of ballots, posted shortly after 8 p.m., shows the preliminary results for city, school and charter review commission seats. Final election results will be certified by Nov. 25.

Clark County Elections reported 78,527 ballots counted as of Tuesday night, with an estimated 36,000 left to process. Voter turnout stood at 22%, with 356,025 registered voters in the county. 

Cowlitz County Elections reported 16,435 ballots with an estimated 21.11% voter turnout in its preliminary results.

Local Nonpartisan Offices

City of Battle Ground

Battle Ground Mayor Troy McCoy runs unopposed for City Council Position No. 1.

For Council Position No. 4, incumbent Jeanie Kuypers has received 1,698 votes (56.47%), while former councilor and mayor Philip L. Johnson trails with 1,309 votes (43.53%). Kuypers was appointed to the seat previously held by Adrian Cortes, who is now serving in the state Senate.

For Council Position No. 5, Aimee Vaile leads with 1,884 votes (61.03%), followed by former councilor and mayor John G. Idsinga with 1,203 votes (38.97%). Tricia Davis, who currently serves on the seat, did not seek reelection.

In the race for Council Position No. 6, incumbent Cherish DesRochers is just leading with 1,570 votes (50.86%), with former councilor Brian Munson close behind at 1,517 votes (49.14%), a difference of 53 votes.

City of La Center

All three La Center City Council candidates are running unopposed in the upcoming election. Louis Rivara (Position No. 1), KC Kasberg (Position No. 2), and Sean Boyle (Position No. 3) are set to serve on the council next year. Rivara will be the only new member, while Kasberg and Boyle will return as incumbents.

City of Ridgefield

Ridgefield City Council races are also uncontested this year. Meghan Hamilton (Position No. 1), Mayor Matt Cole (Position No. 4), Katie Favela (Position No. 5) and Rian Davis (Position No. 6) are expected to retain or assume their seats. Hamilton, Favela, and Davis were previously appointed to the council following three separate resignations.

City of Woodland

For Council Position No. 1, incumbent J.J. Burke leads with 385 votes (52.45%), with challenger Aaron Brown behind with 334 votes (47.28%).

In Council Position No. 2, Brittny Michaelson holds a stronger lead with 444 votes (60.57%) while incumbent Carol Rounds follows with 289 votes (39.43%).

The Council Position No. 3 race shows incumbent Melissa Doughty ahead with 462 votes (63.78%), while DeeAnna Holland has 262 votes (63.72%).

For Council Position No. 6, Jennifer De Luz leads with 427 votes (58.41%) and Keith Bellisle trails with 301 votes (41.18%).

Jason L. Friend, appointed by the council following the resignation of Monte Smith, runs unopposed in the Council Position No. 7 race.

Town of Yacolt

Council Position No. 1 candidate Jeff Carothers, Council Position No. 2 candidate Kandi Peto, Council Position No. 3 candidate Craig Carroll and Council Position No. 4 candidate Brandon Russell all run unopposed.

School Board Elections

Battle Ground School District No. 119

For District No. 1, Lorri Sibley leads with 6,935 votes (52.79%), followed by Jennifer Heine-Withee with 6,150 votes (46.81%).

In District No. 3, Chris Grewell leads with 7,956 votes (61.21%), while Sabrena Worthy has 4,987 votes (38.37%).

For District No. 5, Marshall Marrott overwhelms the results with 9,901 votes (87.03%) ahead of Solina Adelson-Journey with 1,277 votes (11.22%).

Hockinson School District No. 98

In District No. 1, Teresa VanNatta leads with 1,148 votes (67.29%) ahead of Stacie Mitchem with 550 votes (32.24%).

For District No. 2, Sherrie Jones runs unopposed.

La Center School District No. 101

Amanda Miller runs unopposed for District No. 2 while Samuel Glacker runs unopposed for District No. 3.

Ridgefield School District No. 122

Amanda Ronstadt of District No. 1 and Donna Farnsworth of District No. 4 both run unopposed.

Woodland School District No. 404

In District No. 3, Marie Wodaege has 1,016 votes (55.19%), while incumbent Stephen Blum trails with 817 votes (44.38%).

Trish Huddleston of District No. 4 and Tom Guthrie of District No. 5 both run unopposed.

Clark County Charter Review Commission

Clark County voters are choosing 15 members to serve on the next Charter Review Commission, three from each council district. Early Nov. 4 results show the following candidates leading their respective races:

District 1
• Position 1 – Patrick Adigweme leads with 7,468 votes (57.66%) over Cemal Richards with 5,484 votes (42.34%).
• Position 2 – Ann Donnelly leads with 7,344 votes (55.40%) over Adrienne Mason with 5,913 votes (44.60%).
• Position 3 – Eric LaBrant leads with 8,327 votes (64.21%) over Leah Perkel with 4,642 votes (35.79%).

District 2
• Position 1 – Brandon Erickson leads with 8,142 votes (58.14%) over John Bower with 5,862 votes (41.86%).
• Position 2 – Cathie Garber leads with 6,227 votes (44.63%) over Bob Runnells with 4,932 votes (35.13%) and Justin Oberg with 2,280 votes (20.61%).
• Position 3 –  Kim Hamlik leads with 6,786 votes (49.35%) over Sean Oberg with 3,656 votes (26.59%) and Jim Foote with 3,308 votes (23.95%).

District 3
• Position 1 – Ben Christly leads with 7,120 votes (54.67%) over Jill Ross with 4,673 votes (35.88%) and Michael Bauman Sr. with 1,230 votes (9.44%).
• Position 2 – Janet Landesberg leads with 7,385 votes (57.95%) over Janet Gullberg with 5,359 votes (42.05%).
• Position 3 – John Jay leads with 7,049 votes (54.97%) over Henry Marion with 5,774 votes (45.03%).

District 4
• Position 1 – Liz Cline leads with 7,243 votes (46.06%) over Amber Kent with 4,547 votes (28.92%) and Cole Horning with 3,934 votes (25.02%).
• Position 2 – Dorothy Gasque leads with 8,846 votes (56.78%) over Janna Meyer with 6,733 votes (43.22%).
• Position 3 – Morgan Holmgren leads with 7,119 votes (46.12%) over Kirk VanGelder with 5,964 votes (38.63%) and Brad Witteman with 2,354 votes (15.25%).

District 5
• Position 1 – John Zingale narrowly leads with 8,748 votes (50.37%) over Brad Benton with 8,620 votes (49.63%).
• Position 2 – Duncan Hoss leads with 10,708 votes (62.75%) over Hattie Stigum Larionov with 6,357 votes (37.25%).
• Position 3 – Peter Silliman leads with 9,093 votes (53.44%) over Randi L. Knott with 7,922 votes (46.56%).

City of Vancouver Proposition No. 5 – Police and Public Safety Services Levy Lid Lift

As of Tuesday night, Proposition No. 5 received 15,226 votes in favor (57.23%) and 11,378 votes opposed (42.77%), currently passing.

If approved, the measure would fund additional police and public safety services, including more police officers, updated equipment, and criminal justice system support. The levy would increase Vancouver’s regular property tax by approximately $0.15 per $1,000 of assessed valuation, setting the 2026 rate at no more than $2.47 per $1,000 AV.
