Fire crews from Clark-Cowlitz Fire Rescue (CCFR) battled a fire in a 35-foot fifth-wheel camper for an hour, just west of 29th Avenue on State Route 502, on Wednesday, Sept. 10.
For days, travelers of State Route 502 took to social media to state their displeasure with the abandoned trailer resting on the shoulder of the westbound lanes. On Thursday, Sept. 11, a social media post showed the burnt trailer being towed away from the shoulder.
During the blaze, CCFR’s Engine 26 from Dollars Corner, Engine 25 from the Fairgrounds, and Battalion 21 from Ridgefield responded to the call, according to a Facebook post by CCFR.
Crews arrived to find heavy fire from the trailer, the post stated. Westbound lanes of state Route 502 were closed, and a water tender from Ridgefield was ordered since there was no hydrant close by, the post added.
The scene was then turned over to the Washington State Patrol after the fire was put out, CCFR stated.
