Former Battle Ground Mayor and current City Council member Troy McCoy announced Friday, Feb. 27, that he is running for Clark County Council District 5.

The position is currently held by County Chair Sue Marshall.

McCoy said he is seeking the seat to bring what he described as proven, effective and solution-focused leadership to the county.

“Clark County is home,” McCoy said in a news release. “This is where I have built my life, raised my family and grown a small business for more than two decades. After more than 25 years in this community, I know what works, what needs fixing and how to bring people together to get results.”

McCoy is running on a platform centered on public safety, responsible growth, livability and government accountability.

He previously served on the Battle Ground School Board, the Battle Ground City Council and as mayor of Battle Ground. According to the news release, his public service record includes work on public safety, infrastructure, recreation and education while maintaining balanced budgets and focusing on long-term planning.

“I have seen firsthand how local government decisions affect daily life,” McCoy said in a news release. “Good policy comes from public input, open discussion and collaboration. We must listen to all residents, not only the ones we agree with.”

According to the news release, McCoy’s tenure on the City Council and as mayor included securing investments in police staffing, equipment and facilities, overseeing major road resurfacing efforts and advancing downtown revitalization. The release states he also worked to bring C-Tran’s current service to Battle Ground, obtain funding for the city’s first new park in decades and secure funds to remodel the Battle Ground Senior Center and offer free access for seniors.

McCoy also highlights his time on the Battle Ground School Board, where he helped restore middle school sports after a forty-year absence, increased community engagement and supported passage of school levies to fund district operations, according to the news release.

“Clark County should work for all of us. Families, farmers, small business owners and seniors all deserve responsive and effective government.” McCoy said in a news release.
