A funeral for former La Center Mayor Greg Thornton is set for 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 25, the city announced last week. A number of current city councilors will attend.
The ceremony will take place at Saint Mary of Guadalupe Church at 1520 N. 65th Ave., Ridgefield. Thornton died July 21 after a long illness, having resigned from his position in March.
There will also be a celebration of life for Thornton beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 26, hosted at La Center City Hall, 210 E. Fourth St., La Center. Current city councilors are also expected to attend.
Thornton began his career in city government as a member of the La Center Planning Commission from 2007-10, when he was appointed to the City Council. He ran and won election for mayor in 2015 and was re-elected in 2019.
