U.S. Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, D-Skamania, posted a short video to her Facebook page last week criticizing Republicans after a long session of Congress.
In the video, which was posted after midnight Friday morning, Gluesenkamp Perez speaks directly into the camera, seemingly taking the video on her phone while sitting outside the U.S. Capitol building. The recognizable dome looms in the background. During the short video, the representative makes vague statements condemning parliamentary procedure for “hiding pedophiles.”
The video originally called out Republicans directly, but was seemingly edited after posting to include just the following phrase.
“I don’t care what your party affiliation is,” Gluesenkamp Perez said. “Anyone that is gonna stand behind hiding pedophiles with parliamentary procedure in the middle of the night, I have no use for that.”
The video, which is currently only available on the representative’s Facebook page, was posted not long after a late night Thursday congressional session where House Republicans unveiled a resolution that calls for the release of documents related to investigations into the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
According to reporting by the Associated Press and the New York Times, debate over the resolution threatened to hold up a vote on a bill that retracted $9 billion in government funds for public media. That bill was ultimately pushed through after the proposed resolution was announced.
House Democrats as well as a small number of Republicans criticized the resolution proposed by House leadership, pointing out that the policy takes no real steps to guarantee the release of the documents. While the resolution has been proposed, it has not yet been scheduled for a vote on the House floor.
