District tournament play came to a close this week with several north Clark County boys soccer teams either punching tickets to the state playoffs or seeing their seasons come to an end.
Hockinson High School advanced all the way to the district championship match and secured a berth to the 2A state tournament. The Hawks defeated Centralia High School 2-1 on May 9 before knocking off R.A. Long 3-1 in the semifinals on Tuesday, May 12. Hockinson then faced Columbia River in the district title match on Saturday, May 16, with both teams already guaranteed spots in the state tournament; the match resulted in a 4-1 loss.
The Hawks were awarded the 10-seed in the 2A state tournament and are scheduled to play No. 7 Pullman High School on Wednesday, May 20, time and location remained to-be-determined at press time.
In the 1A District 4 tournament, La Center High School battled through the consolation bracket but fell one win short of a state berth. The Wildcats opened district play with a 5-2 loss to Raymond-South Bend High School on Tuesday, May 12, before staying alive with a 3-2 win over Montesano High School in an elimination thriller on Thursday, May 14. La Center’s season ended in a winner-to-state matchup against Fort Vancouver High School, resulting in a 1-0 loss on Saturday, May 16.
Ridgefield also kept its season alive deep into district play in the 2A bracket. The Spudders opened with a narrow 1-0 win over Aberdeen High School on May 9 before a 3-0 loss to the Columbia River Rapids on Tuesday, May 12, sending the Spudders to the consolation bracket. Ridgefield defeated Centralia High School 4-1 on Thursday, May 14, to stay alive and then lost to R.A. Long High School 1-0 in a winner-to-state match on Saturday, May 16, ending the Spudders season.
In the 2A District 4 tournament, Woodland High School saw its postseason run end in the pigtail round. The Beavers fell 3-2 to Centralia on May 7, eliminating Woodland from district contention.
In the 3A district tournament, Prairie’s season ended in the opener. The Falcons were shut out 5-0 by Heritage High School on Tuesday, May 12.
