Hockinson Fun Days, a long-standing tradition put on by the Hockinson High School AAA Boosters, will once again offer traditional fun and activities this year Fri., May 31-Sun., June 2, with events taking place throughout the Hockinson area.
This year’s Hockinson Fun Days theme, Hockinson Through the Ages, will aim to celebrate the decades that have made Hockinson “the community where we live, learn and give, beginning with its first school in 1870 through today,” according to a press release from the Hockinson AAA Boosters. Attendees are encouraged to park in the Hockinson High School parking lot, located at 16819 NE 159th St., Brush Prairie, and then ride the shuttle service to the different activities.
Events will kick off with Bingo Night at Hockinson High School Fri., May 31, 6-9 p.m., in the commons. Cost is two Bingo cards for $1, and concessions will be available from 6-8 p.m. Families are welcome at this annual kick-off event to start Fun Days weekend.
On Sat., June 1, start the morning off by getting some breakfast at the 25th Annual Fire District 3 Pancake Breakfast and Open House. The all-you-can-eat breakfast is set for 7 a.m.-noon, at Fire Station 31, located at 17718 NE 159th St., Brush Prairie. Breakfast includes pancakes, ham, eggs, orange drink and coffee. Cost for the breakfast is $5 per person or $15 per family. Proceeds will be used to purchase emergency medical equipment for Fire District 3.
The Open House is scheduled from 8 a.m.-noon. Attendees will enjoy interactive displays, firefighting and emergency medical demonstrations, station tours, apparatus and equipment displays, Life Flight helicopter and numerous other events. There will also be a water squirt for kids, an auto extrication demonstration, a real structure fire and rescue in the training tower and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit demonstration.
Also on Sat., June 1, the Marketplace Bazaar, an area marketplace vendor bazaar, will take place from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., in the Hockinson Middle School gym, 15916 NE 182nd Ave., Brush Prairie. There will be numerous handmade local items and other favorite vendors will be present.
The Hockinson Fun Days Parade will begin at noon Sat., June 1. The parade will begin at the high school and will come to a stop at Northeast 182nd Avenue and Northeast 164th Street. The annual parade will feature various bands, floats, old cars, kids and fun.
The Grand Marshals of this year’s Hockinson Fun Days Parade are Rick and Jill Steele. Rick is an area fire captain and was the first Hockinson High School football coach until his retirement this year. Jill was at Hockinson Middle School for many years, then she was the vice principal at Hockinson High School until this year. She is now a principal in Kelso. They are a long-time Hockinson family and raised two children in the community.
Hockinson Fun Days attendees can participate in even more activities at the Country Fair Carnival Sat., June 1, 1-4 p.m., at Hockinson Middle School, lower parking lot, 15916 NE 182nd Ave., Brush Prairie. The carnival will feature carnival games, bounce houses, cake walk, prizes, carnival food and more.
Events will continue on Sun., June 2, starting with the 5K Fun Run/Walk and Kids Mile, which will begin at 9 a.m. The race will start and finish at the Hockinson High School track. Cost to participate is $15 per person or $5 for the Kids Mile walk. All proceeds benefit the Hockinson High School Track and Field and Cross Country teams.
