The HOPE Dementia Support was recently awarded an Innovation Program Grant of $9,000 from the I’m Still Here Foundation.

HOPE will use the funding to offer a monthly music and memories group for individuals with dementia and their caregivers, stated a news release, which will allow them to experience musical connections and practice relational skills through music.

HOPE will also “bring music into your home and care routines” utilizing technology, music streaming and training to transfer musical engagement skills into tools to decrease agitation and increase communication.

“HOPE’s mission is to provide support, education and advocacy for care partners of loved

ones living with dementia,” stated the release. “Through music and memories, research has shown that care partners handle stressors more easily and will experience more bonding and feelings of love and care as the individual living with dementia communicates and cooperates more easily, with less agitation and aggression.”

The release stated the I’m Still Here Foundation helps people who are living with dementia flourish through engagement in life, family and community. They support programs that engage people with dementia and their caregivers in art, culture and community.
