Dan Gene York, 79, of Ridgefield, Washington, passed away peacefully from Lewy body dementia on June 5 at his home, surrounded by family.

Dan leaves behind his loving wife of 48 years, Janet; his sons, Joey (Rachel), Jony, and Danny; his daughter, Jennifer (Lori); his grandsons, Zachary and Connor; his granddaughters, Emily and Sarah; his sister, Edna Wilson; and his brother, Fred York. He also leaves behind an extended family of in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, E.L. and Stella York; his brothers, Alan, David, Alvin, Steve, and Mike; and his sister, Betty.

Dan was born Aug. 2, 1945, in La Grande, Oregon, the sixth of nine children. When he was young, the family moved to Ridgefield, where he later graduated from Ridgefield High School in 1963.

Dan was always a hard worker. Over the years, he worked for the Red Lion, International Paper, and finally Clark Public Utilities until his retirement in 2009.

In his free time, Dan enjoyed being outdoors—camping, fishing, hunting, or simply going for drives in the area. If he had the chance, he might stop at a garage sale or auction. He took great pride in caring for his home and yard.

Dan was also an amazing storyteller. He will be remembered for generations for the stories he shared with his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He will also be remembered for his unique sandwiches—peanut butter, summer sausage, cheese, and mayo was a favorite.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2025, at the Battle Ground Community Center.
