She always said she had the best family on earth, with nieces, nephews and cousins by the dozens.
Jackie enjoyed many things. She loved music and played saxophone, marching with the Battle Ground High School band. She was involved with many Bible study groups and hosted two in her home over 15 years' time. She was a sports fan and claimed the Portland Trail Blazers as her favorite team. She had a room in her home known as the "Blazer Room," but whenever you visited you might find one of any competitive sport on her TV.
In earlier days she enjoyed camping, hiking and backpacking. Much of her life was spent researching genealogy and family history. Reading was a favorite pastime, always picking up new books to add to her large library. There was always a jigsaw puzzle in the works for visiting family and friends to help with. She liked to travel and enjoyed trips to Europe, the British Isles, New Zealand and Hawaii. Later in life, she took several road trips with a group of her friends and enjoyed them so much. One included a long drive to Alaska.
Jackie was a member of the Charter Oak Community Church, the North County Seniors and Daughters of the Pioneers, Vancouver Chapter 19. She went to Battle Ground schools, grades 1–12, Clark College, and Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California.
She worked at Washington Canners/Diamond Fruit Growers for 15 years, for the State of Washington in the welfare office, and then in the business office at the School for the Deaf.
Memorial gifts can be sent to Shriners Hospital, where she spent four months of her life when she was 4 years old, or Pomeroy Farms, where history is being re-lived every day. Jackie enjoyed volunteering there when she was able.
We want to give a very special thanks to Cozy Palace Adult Family Home in Battle Ground. They took such wonderful care of her in her last days.
A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens on July 9th at noon.
