In Loving Memory Of Janie Storm 1920 - 2023

Posted

Janie Marie Storm (maiden name Bickford) passed away on Aug. 5, 2023, in her home in Battle Ground.

Born on Feb. 9, 1920, she was just shy of 103-and-a-half years old. She lived through a lifetime of historical events and created a lifetime of memories on her own.

Janie grew up in Fort Yates, North Dakota, and moved to Wyoming when she was 14 years old. She grew up with four sisters and five brothers. Dances and baseball games were the things to do. She met her spouse, Walter Storm, at one of the baseball games. They were married on Feb. 10, 1940, in Salt Creek, Wyoming. They moved to Washington state in 1943 and to the Battle Ground area in 1946.

Walter and Janie had five children, Bernice Storm, Wayne Storm (Jan), Sharon Lahti (Richard), Linda Storm and Dennis Storm (Annie). They are survived by their children, 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Janie was known as “Grandma” to everyone that knew her. When we think of Janie, we will think of dough-gods on Halloween, pea salad and Christmas Eve celebrations that included tomato soup and Santa visits.

Janie worked for 25 years as a seamstress for Jantzen Woolen Mills and spent 10 years as a foster grandparent with Battle Ground schools.

Janie’s burial service took place on Monday, Aug. 21, 2023, at Park Hill Cemetery in Vancouver, Washington. Her celebration of life service will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, at Community of Christ Church, 400 N.E. 179th St., Ridgefield, Washington.

We invite all those who knew Janie to come and celebrate her life.
