Marvin Arnold Laurila, 79, of Bremerton, Washington, passed away on April 30, 2023, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Born Aug. 12, 1943, in Vancouver, Washington, to Arnold and Hilma (Haskari) Laurila, Marvin grew up with his two sisters in a tight-knit family in the Finn Hill area of Hockinson, Washington. He attended Battle Ground High School where he enjoyed singing in the choir. Upon graduating in 1961, he attended Clark College studying journalism and covering the sports scene for the school paper.
As a master craftsman, he excelled at his profession, sheetrocking homes and businesses from Vancouver to the Puget Sound area and beyond (including the Hyatt Regency in Kauai, Hawaii, and the Kingdome in Seattle). He was a proud member of Carpenters Union 1144 out of Seattle.
When he wasn’t spending time with his family and friends, he enjoyed playing golf, spoiling his cats, reading history books, cooking and watching sports.
He is survived by his wife, Nikki Norris Olson; sons, Andrew Olson and Jacob (Lisa); daughter, Kari Mellott (Ray); sister-in-law, Kristi Beitzel (Robert); and many beautiful grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and his dear friends, Don L., Don S., Marv P., Rick McD., and Rick and Patsy W.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Frank and Helen Norris; his sisters, Irene Miller (Buddy) and JoAnn Hauge (Jack), Miller (Bill); and his niece, Trina Hauge.
Marv was a good guy and he will be sorely missed, but his spirit will continue to shine in all who knew and loved him.
