The Clark County Council approved a resolution to appoint Ken Lader as the county engineer effective immediately.

Lader has served as the interim county engineer for the last couple of months, stated a news release from the county.

“I’m excited to take on the role as county engineer,” stated Lader in the release. “The last few months have shown me how passionate and invested public works employees are to ensure the safety of our roads and bridges. I’m honored to work with such dedicated public servants.”

Lader has worked for more than 20 years for Clark County Public Works and served as the manager of the engineering and design sector. He previously held positions as an engineer and an engineering technician.

Lader earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Oregon State University. He is a licensed civil engineer in the state of Washington.

“Ken’s passion for the employees of public works and the design of the roads in our beautiful county has been present throughout his distinguished career,” stated Deputy County Manager Amber Emery in the release. “His leadership for the office of the county engineer has been steadfast through a time of change and I am pleased that Ken has stepped into this role permanently.”

Counties are required to designate a county engineer who is a registered and professional civil engineer in Washington, according to state law.

A county engineer’s functions typically include construction oversight, the modification, planning and maintenance of county roads and bridges, and other engineering-related tasks.
