Kiwanis Club holds Easter egg hunt in Battle Ground

Dozens of kids and families descended onto Kiwanis Park in Battle Ground for an Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 8.

Kids scrambled to pick up eggs that were placed throughout the main field of the park and were able to finish the hunt with a couple dozen of their own.

“Last year, we tried a drive-thru (format) and that didn’t really work out very well,” said Kiwanis Club member Valorie Schaffroth. “We went back to in-person this year. … We’ve actually downsized it a little bit this year compared to in the past.”

Clark County Fire District 3 was at the egg hunt as they handed out fire helmet hats to kids and announced the start of the egg hunt by blowing the sirens on two of their engines. The eggs were collected and placed into participants’ baskets in around five minutes.

Kids 10 and under were able to trade in their egg shells for a variety of treats.

Joining Fire District 3 were members of the Battle Ground Police Department and high school students who earned service hours as they managed games for kids in the park during the egg hunt.

Schaffroth said it took hours to set up the event, which wrapped up within a few joyous minutes for the children.

Prior to the pandemic, Schaffroth said around 350 kids typically attended the Easter egg hunt.  She hopes to build back those numbers at next year’s event.
