After the first week of full action since returning from spring break, the standings are starting to show who has work to do and who needs to sustain their place in their respective leagues.
The young Battle Ground Tigers began their 4A Greater St. Helens League journey with a 12-0 loss to Skyview High School. The Tigers looked to get right in the league standings with a matchup on Tuesday, April 21, against Union High School, but results were unavailable at press time. Battle Ground looks to conclude their four-game week with a 4A GSHL matchup at Camas High School on Friday, April 24 at 4:30 p.m.
In the 3A GSHL, the Prairie Falcons first gained a 12-0 win over Kelso High School. This week, the Falcons faced off against Heritage High School on Tuesday, April 21, with another 3A GSHL matchup scheduled for Friday, April 24, against the Mountain View Thunder at 4:30 p.m.
The Tigers and Prairie Falcons are also scheduled for a non-league rivalry matchup on Thursday, April 23, at Battle Ground High School at 4:30 p.m.
In the 2A GSHL, the Ridgefield Spudders entered the week holding to third place at 4-2 in league play, while the Woodland Beavers sat at fourth at 2-3 and the Hockinson Hawks landing at 1-3 in the league standings.
In the three-game week, the Spudders’ most crucial match comes on Friday, April 24, at 4:30 p.m. against the second place Columbia River Rapids.
For the Beavers, their biggest aspect of the three-game week will be winning two out of three to try and maintain fourth place. Woodland plays seventh place Washougal and eighth place Hudson’s Bay high schools, but also the first place Mark Morris Monarchs on Wednesday, April 22, at 4:30 p.m. at home.
After suffering a 12-6 loss to the Woodland Beavers on Friday, April 17, the Hockinson Hawks have a battle with four games on the schedule. The Hawks played Hudson’s Bay High School on Monday, April 20, but results were unavailable at press time. Hockinson next has three matchups against the top two 2A GSHL squads beginning with the Columbia River Rapids on Wednesday, April 22, at 4:30 p.m. at the Vancouver Girls Softball Association complex, at 800 NE 117th St. in Vancouver. The Hawks conclude the week with two games against the first place Mark Morris Monarchs on Friday, April 24, at 4:30 p.m. at Seventh Avenue Park in Longview and on Saturday, April 25, at 10 a.m. at home.
In the 1A Trico League, the La Center Wildcats are sitting in fourth place. The Wildcats have a chance to flip over to third place in the tightly contested league with two matchups against Kalama High School, which was placed in third entering this week. The Wildcats first played Kalama on Tuesday, April 21, but results were unavailable at press time. They are next scheduled to play on Thursday, April 23, at 4:30 p.m. at home.
