Editor,
When I moved to this area a few years ago I was excited to be living in a community where there were still ‘neighborhoods’ where people were good and kind, and cared about each other, like things used to be. Ridgefield is now a growing community, but still holds that small-town feel, with truly nice people.
34th Court, has, for the last few years, been Candy Cane Lane! A street where every house is decorated for Christmas! It is an amazing, truly spectacular scene, and everyone who visits absolutely loves it! Last year’s event was so fantastic, that the city even offered to change the name of the street to ‘Candy Cane Lane’ officially! The residents go above and beyond to provide a wonderful event!
They provide entertainment, music, cookies, cocoa, candy canes, etc. all without charging anybody anything. There were so many people who brought their families and enjoyed looking at all the holiday decorations! It is such an amazing event to be a part of!
(The former mayor was 100% behind this event!!)
This year, after the last few years of support, the city of Ridgefield has decided, sadly, to stop supporting this event. They also asked that it not be advertised. This beautiful event that provides so much good for the community, that doesn’t cost anyone anything, and that brings joy and happiness for so many! So many Ridgefield businesses and individuals have supported this event, like Clark Christmas Lights, who decorated all the trees behind the cul-de-sac, and, ironically, volunteered to decorate trees for the city for the last 2 years, and were turned down! Everyone in the community gets to enjoy the beauty of these lights! Everyone who drives down Pioneer sees them! They look Fantastic! Why are the very events that give Ridgefield its wonderful community vibe being stopped?
It’s too bad they have stopped the park-n-ride because people will absolutely come to this event because it’s fantastic, so there will be traffic! Please, everyone, be careful, and be considerate of others!
Our neighborhood community is diligently working on preparing to hold the event on December 14th. Many, many kudos to these individuals!
Please join me in encouraging the city of Ridgefield to reconsider withdrawing their support of this fabulous event!
