Letter to the editor: Anti-fascism honors, not dishonors, WWII veterans

Posted

Over 16 million Americans fought in WWII and 400,000 died. These veterans were fighting against aggressive expansionism and the ultra-nationalist authoritarian dictators Adolph Hitler and Benito Mussolini. Put simply, our US soldiers were anti-fascist, or antifa.

I am shocked that Battle Ground Mayor Eric Overholser would dishonor our WWII veterans by proclaiming that persons who stand against fascism are terrorists.  It is inconceivable to me that our community would contemplate such a proclamation.

As a Christian, and I do not believe that Jesus would support proclamations promoting fascism or ICE, which has spent the last year terrorizing communities and tearing apart families.

Sincerely,

Barbara Backman
