Letter to the editor: Are Democrats saving democracy?

Posted

While waiting in my car, I noticed a vehicle with a license plate reading, "Save Democracy, Vote Democrat." The phrase struck a nerve, as Democrats often claim Republicans threaten democracy, yet this plate seemed to advocate for a one-party system, reminiscent of socialism or communism. I approached the driver and asked if he believed in "United We Stand, Divided We Fall."

He hesitated, saying it depended on context. Pointing to his plate, I questioned whether counting non-citizens in elections — common in sanctuary states like Washington, a Democratic policy — was truly democratic or an attempt to rig elections. He insisted it was constitutional, but I argued it was a clear tactic to gain an electoral advantage. If Democrats need to "cheat" to win, how is that saving democracy?
