Letter to the editor: Children and parents should be warned after recent sting

Posted

Just read the front page article regarding the child predator sting. This is most concerning.

I live by Daybreak Elementary School. Last week, we had two young girls from the middle school knock on our door Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday after school to kill time until the 9-year-old younger brother got out of school.

Middle school is let out an hour before the elementary. I wouldn't let them come into the house even though they asked to because it was really hot outside. One asked for a drink of water. I asked if they told their mothers that they have been hanging out on my front porch. I don't know their moms. I asked why they kept coming over. They said they were told they had to leave and wait for the brother outside the school property.

This prompted me to call the school to see if this was the policy. I gave the names of the two girls. They must have been spoken to. They didn't show up yesterday. My biggest concern is Daybreak is a walking school.

Across the street from the playground is an Airbnb. I researched the screening process for guests for Airbnb and realized that any child predator could easily stay there and have their pick.

Do you know if there is any better way to help these unsuspecting children and parents? Unfortunately, not everyone reads The Reflector.
